Lesson 1: Zechariah and Elizabeth

Readings: Luke 1: 5-25

Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth had prayed to God for a baby for a long time. Now they were old and it seemed impossible for Elizabeth to have a baby. One day Zechariah was working in the Temple. An angel came and told him that soon his wife would have a son. They were to call his name John.

Lesson 2: Mary and Gabriel

Readings: Luke 1: 26-38

The angel Gabriel had first told Zechariah and Elizabeth that they would have a son. Now the angel was making a special visit to Mary. Mary was told that she, too, would have a son and that His name was to be Jesus.

Lesson 3: The birth of John

Readings: Luke 1: 57-80

The birth of a baby is always an exciting time. The birth of Elizabeth’s baby was very special, because the angel had promised that he would be born.

Lesson 4: The birth of Jesus

Readings: Luke 2: 1-7

When we think of new babies, we think of clean hospitals, comfortable cribs, nurses and doctors. When Jesus was born, it was so different! Mary and Joseph had to make the long journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. This was because of an order from the Roman Emperor.
