Lesson 1: Peter falls asleep

Readings: Matthew 26: 36-46

Have you ever fallen asleep when you’ve been asked to stay awake? Peter did! Peter was one of the special friends, or disciples, of Jesus. Wherever Jesuswent, his disciples went. One night, the Lord Jesus took His disciples to a garden called Gethsemane. Jesus asked Peter to stay awake while He went topray to His Father. What was the Lord Jesus going to do?

Lesson 2: Peter has a fight

Readings: Matthew 26: 47-56

Peter had let the Lord Jesus down when he had slept in the garden. But Judas, another of Jesus’ disciples, did something worse! Judas was leading the gang of men who came and took Jesus away.

Lesson 3: Peter lies about Jesus

Readings: Matthew 26: 69-75

The Lord Jesus was taken away to the High Priest’s house. Peter came there a little later. Peter sat outside the house warming himself by a fire. A servant girl came to Peter and said, “You are a friend of Jesus”. Peter was frightened and told a lie. “I don’t know what you’re talking about”, he said. Three times Peter said he didn’t know Jesus.

Lesson 4: Jesus and Peter have a talk

Readings: John 21: 1-19

The Lord Jesus had died on the cross. His body had been put in the tomb or cave. On the first Easter Sunday morning He came alive! Many of the disciples saw Him that day. Some days later, Peter and the disciples went fishing. They fished all night but caught nothing. In the morning they saw someone on the shore. It was the Lord Jesus, but they didn’t know Him.
