The Lord Jesus and some of His disciples had come for a meal at Simon Peter’s house. There was a great problem. Simon Peter’s mother-in-law was very ill. She had a fever, a kind of flu. Simon and his wife asked Jesus to help her.
Lesson 2: A man with leprosy
Readings: Luke 5: 12-16
When you have measles or chicken pox you cannot go to school, otherwise somebody might catch it. In the days of the Lord Jesus there was a terrible skin disease, called leprosy, which quickly spread from person to person.
Lesson 3: A helpless man
Readings: Luke 5: 17-26
People from many places had come to listen to the Lord Jesus. The house where He was, was crowded. Four men tried to bring their sick friend, who was lying on a bed, into the house.
Lesson 4: Matthew
Readings: Luke 5: 27-32
Levi, or Matthew as he is usually called, was a busy man. He collected taxes from the people of his town. Nobody liked him because he worked for the Romans. Perhaps he sometimes took more money than he should.
