In these Bible Readings, we are introduced to another of the men whom God used as a judge. The judges were God’s chosen leaders in Israel, in the years before their first king.
Lesson 3: Jonah
Readings: Jonah 1: 1-17; 2: 10-3: 2
Jonah is another familiar name from the Old Testament. He was a prophet. A prophet’s job was to be God’s mouthpiece to the people. He was to tell them God’s message for the present, and also to announce His plans for the future.
Lesson 4: Nehemiah
Readings: Nehemiah 1: 1-4; 2: 1-8; 4: 8-23
Although the book of Nehemiah is near the centre of the Old Testament, it records events which took place near the end of the Old Testament era. Israel had been defeated, Solomon’s Temple destroyed, and for years the Jews had been living as captives in Babylon. Even though some of the exiles had returned to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem, all was not going well in the repairing of the city.
