Lesson 1: Ruth

Readings: Ruth 1

Long ago, in Bethlehem, there lived a family. The father was called Elimelech, and the mother, Naomi. They had two boys. When a famine came, they all went to live in a country called Moab.

Lesson 2: Ruth and Boaz

Readings: Ruth 2-4

Soon after coming to Bethlehem, Ruth went to work during the barley harvest. She worked in fields owned by a rich man called Boaz. Ruth was a stranger, but Boaz was very kind to her. He helped her with her work.

Lesson 3: Hannah prays to God

Readings: 1 Samuel 1

Elkanah had two wives. One was called Hannah and the other Peninnah. Peninnah had several children and often laughed at Hannah, and was unkind to her, because Hannah had no children.

Lesson 4: God calls Samuel

Readings: 1 Samuel 2-3

When Samuel was very young, his mother took him to Shiloh to visit Eli, the priest, in the House of the Lord. Hannah reminded Eli about her earlier visit and about her prayer to God.
