Lesson 1: Praying to God

Readings: 1 Samuel 1: 1-28

At the time of this story, many people of Israel travelled each year to the House of God at Shiloh. Eli was the priest there. We are introduced to Elkanah and his two wives. They are on their annual visit to worship the Lord at Shiloh.

Lesson 2: Growing before God

Readings: 1 Samuel 2: 1-2, 18-21, 26, 34

God had answered Hannah’s prayer and given her the child that she had wanted for years. She kept her promise and brought young Samuel to the House of God where he could learn to work for God, as he grew up.

Lesson 3: Listening to God

Readings: 1 Samuel 3: 1-21

In this lesson Samuel learns to listen to what the Lord has to say to him. This happened at a time of great wickedness in Israel. What the Lord had to say was, therefore, very important. One night when Eli, who was getting old, had gone to bed, and Samuel also was lying down, something quite amazing happened.

Lesson 4: Working for God

Readings: 1 Samuel 8: 1-9; 9: 1, 2, 14-27; 10: 1

Many years went by and Samuel became an old man. He was now unable to rule Israel in the way he had done for most of his life.
