Lesson 1: Choosing a King

Readings: 1 Samuel 16: 1-13

If you had to choose a man to be king, what sort of person would you choose? Someone who was tall and handsome and strong? God told Samuel to go to Bethlehem because He had chosen one of Jesse’s sons to be the new king.

Lesson 2: Fighting Goliath

Readings: 1 Samuel 17: 1-31

The Israelites had a problem. They were at war with the Philistines. The outcome of the battle was to be decided by a fight between one of the Philistines and one of the Israelites.

Lesson 3: Defeating Goliath

Readings: 1 Samuel 17: 32-51

A young boy wanted to fight the giant Goliath! Can you imagine what the newspapers would have said? When King Saul heard what David was saying, he sent for him.

Lesson 4: Living with Saul

Readings: 1 Samuel 18: 1-16

David was a hero when he killed Goliath! Saul wanted David to stay with him and not go back to Bethlehem. David was a very good soldier and soon he was promoted in the army.
